st. patrick’s day traditions

st patricks day traditions

When I was growing up, St. Patrick’s Day was always a fun day in our house. My mom’s side of the family is Irish, and my grandfather and my cousin were even born on St. Patrick’s Day! We always celebrated the day with lots of green food and always made sure that we were wearing green.

Since my cousin Patrick was born on St. Patrick’s Day, I have memories of his family making green breakfast including eggs, pancakes and milk! Patrick has carried on the tradition and makes green pancakes for his kids every year. This year I thought we would adopt the same tradition and I know it will be fun way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!

Green Pancakes & Milk

Charlie is totally obsessed with the color green so I think St. Patrick’s Day may be his favorite holiday this year. To make green pancakes just add a few drops of green food coloring to your normal pancakes mix. If you would like to use natural food dye, India Tree makes a natural decorating color set that you can mix to make green. My husband uses The Gift of Southern Cooking‘s pancake recipe and the pancakes are delicious! We topped them with rainbow sprinkles to make them even more festive.

The green milk is also made with a few drops of green food coloring and I added a touch of honey around the rim of the milk bottle to make the sprinkles stick.
