When it comes to picking a color scheme for your home, you can never go wrong with shades of blue. This color palette is classic, crisp and always looks fresh. A few weeks ago, our friend and interior designer Leslie Hunt asked us to help her style a home she had just finished remodeling and decorating for a photo shoot. When we walked into this home, we immediately fell in love with this beautiful space. The room is decorated predominately with blue tones and layered with greens to create a space that is both soothing and vibrant.
When Leslie was brought on board a year ago, the kitchen and family room were dark and chopped up and did not function well for a young family. The goal was to create a great room that incorporated the kitchen and family room as one unified space. Leslie worked with Vanessa McLean, of McLean Design + Build, to renovate the space. They pushed back a wall, pushed up the ceilings and added a built in bookcase as the focal point of the room. They also added a built in banquette, a pantry, a bar and replaced the appliances and the lighting.
“The Davis family loves blues and greens so I designed a crisp white kitchen with pale blue walls and a bold blue island base, which adds a fun and unexpected element to the space. For the soft furnishings we chose a blue and green whimsical print for the windows and various pillows throughout the room and an aqua sectional to ground the room. We added a mix of printed pillows that gave depth to the character of the space. The space now flows really well and the end result is not only beautiful, but ultimately represents the aesthetic and lifestyle of this family.” – Leslie Hunt
Today, we are thrilled to share these rooms with you.
The bookshelves are styled with coastal accents, including blue coral, heavy rope knots, decorative plates and blue & white vases filled with green dianthus, viburnum and mini boxwood plants. We used monstera leaves and zebrina leaves in a variety of waterscape vases on the dining table, the bar and the kitchen counter and used French ranunculus on the coffee table. In the kitchen we used cabbages, purple artichokes and lotus flower seed heads.
