mom style inspiration

This week is our kids’ first week in kindergarten, and we find ourselves rushing out the door, trying like mad women to get our littles ones to school. Getting our kids ready for school, breakfasts made, lunches packed and all the necessary school forms filled out are challenging enough without even starting to think about what we are going to wear for the day! We were getting a bit tired of the standard jeans and t-shirt or Lululemon yoga pants and tank so we decided to put together a little mom style inspiration to help with our style rut:

A baseball hat is of course a must in a mom’s wardrobe. Not only does it shade the sun, it also camouflages bad hair days or just plain dirty hair. We are all for a baseball cap, but we love pairing it with a slightly more elevated ensemble rather than our standard workout wear. Try wearing it with jeans and a nice sweater or slacks, bright sneakers and a t-shirt.

The Locus of Style

We tend to wear out work out gear all day, you never know when you’ll be able to squeeze in an hour sweat session so you always want to be prepared. It’s easy to walk out the door looking like you’re headed for the gym, but when you plan on being out all day and don’t have time to head home for a shower in between carpool, gym and errands you can instantly make your work out gear look more polished with a simple white t-shirt, a button down and nice sneakers.

You know we love our striped shirts and wear them almost daily, although sometimes the standard blue and white striped shirt needs a little updating so why not add some edge with a black leather moto jacket!

backpack

The backpack isn’t just for your kids. This once frumpy and dated looking accessory is definitely on trend. We love a nice leather version as well as this coated canvas number from Fjallraven Kanken. It’s available in a whole host of shades so you can add a little pop of color to your outfit.

Live, Love and the Pursuit of Shoes

You can never go wrong with a little pop of color, especially with pointy toed flats. Of course we all love heals, but who are we kidding…our heels come out about 4 times a year, max! Since our days of sporting 5 inch heels on a daily basis are long gone, the best substitute is a great pair of brightly colored pointy toed flats.

We are a sucker for a great button down shirt, particularly a white button down. It can be styled so many ways and it instantly makes any pair of jeans, shorts or chinos look more put together. Add a great pair of flats, a bright lipstick and you are all set for anything the day throws your way.

Scent of Obsession

We could live in our sneakers, they make walking our kids to school, chasing them around the park, and running to a meeting that much easier…provided they are paired with an outfit that is more stylish than sweats and a t-shirt! Thankfully, these days we can get away with wearing sneakers with jeans, a blazer, a dress or even slacks!

Adding a blazer to almost any outfit instantly elevates the look…especially jeans. It’s the perfect light weight layering piece as the weather gets cooler and it adds a nice, unexpected preppy twist to jeans and sneakers. Whether you sway toward a military vibe, a sleek trapeze cut or a the classic school boy blazer you can never go wrong!

Cheers to a more stylish day!
